Learn About Pronouns in Norwegian Part 5

A pronoun is called as pronomen in Norwegian. A pronoun is something that can be used in place of a noun. Pronouns are one of the most important part of the grammar and you should learn these well.

Let’s continue with our lessons on pronouns. In this lesson, we shall learn about reflexive pronouns. Below is an example.

Norwegian English
Han vasker seg.
He washes himself.

As you can see in the example above, Han is a personal pronoun and seg is a reflexive pronoun.

Below are some more examples to help you understand how to use reflexive pronouns.

Jeg vasker meg.
I wash myself.
Jeg setter meg.
I seat myself.
Vi vasker oss.
We wash ourselves.
Vi setter oss.
We seat ourselves.
Du vasker deg.
You wash yourself.
Du setter deg.
You seat yourself.
Dere vasker dere.
You wash yourselves.
Dere setter dere.
You seat yourselves.
Han vasker seg.
He washes himself.
Han setter seg.
He seats himself.
Hun vasker seg.
She washes herself.
Hun setter seg.
She seats herself.
Den vasker seg.
It washes itself.
Den setter seg.
It seats itself.
Det vasker seg.
It washes itself.
Det setter seg.
It seats itself.
De vasker seg.
They wash themselves.
De setter seg.
They seat themselves.

You may have noticed that Den/Det represent It. Which one to use is based on the gender of the nouns. For Hankjønn/Hunkjønn nouns, you use Den. For Intetkjønn nouns, you use Det. For more details you can Learn About Nouns in Norwegian.
